An introduction to Karen
The patterns underlying life and reality have always fascinated me as a mathematician and artist. Why are they there? What are they for? What do they mean? Why and how can we use them?
My passion is symbolism from a multifaceted perspective. Numerate and creative, I did a Joint Honours Degree in Mathematics and Management Sciences and an MSc in Marketing, both from the University of Manchester, England. Then I spent many years in international marketing, during which time I was published on several occasions. Symbolism in its many guises was always present in my business career as an international marketer and subsequently it is a subject I have explored in far greater depth since 1999. I consider the science behind numbers, shapes, light and colours, for example, and their roles and purposes in forming reality as well as their use as symbols and tools in the Arts, spirituality and the development of human consciousness. In this way I describe how you can understand science through art and symbolism and also appreciate the magic of alchemy in art.
My books and articles are based on extensive research into subjects covering the Sciences, Arts, philosophy, energy systems, patterns, belief systems and other topics. I enjoy digging deep, looking at inter-relationships and finding the common ground that disguised the different 'languages' of the disciplines. My books are always highly illustrated with insightful quotes and examples from across disciplines and cultures. And, I hope they inspire readers to look at reality with fresh eyes and to delve further for themselves.
Naturally I use symbolism extensively in my artwork. Art was my first love, something I have maintained and developed since my teenage years. Though it was discouraged as a profession I am happy to say that I have never let go of it. Now it is a vital part of my life, a liberating and rewarding creative experience generating artwork that has a profound effect on people.
Since 2019 my love of design, geometry, mathematics, symbolism and play is being used in the design of board and card games. Games for self development and also family fun. This is an area that I have never have considered as a vocation, but it manifested overnight as a result of a chance conversation at a yoga festival. It has resulted a whole new avenue of exploration for me, one that I relish!
Over the years I have been privileged to meet numerous people and honoured to share my work at events and talks/lectures for a wide ranging audience, primarily in the UK and USA. A selection of UK and USA media interviews are in included for your interest.
Looking to the future, I really look forward to sharing my books, games, talks, guided meditations and other yet to emerge projects over coming years.
Thank you for your encouragement, support and interest.
